SP 3198

This loco was built in 11/1974 with EMD construction number 74619-02. She was built to supplement the SP's commute locomotive fleet. She was equipped with a steam boiler and other outfittings for passenger operations on the San Francisco to San Jose commute line and other special assignments.

After the transfer of the SP's commute operations to CalTrain, she was renumbered SP 7601 and began a new life as just another standard freight GP40-2 on 11/26/1986 It is not know at this time if her steam boiler was retained at all, disconnected for possible future use or completely removed. More research is needed.
