This page is dedicated to SP fleet of small, but highly visible GP40P-2 locomotives.
Original orders:
The SP rostered only three GP40P-2 units. They were purchased to supplement the SP's commute fleet for operations on the San Francisco to San Jose commute line. One unit, SP 3197 was one of three locomotives to be painted in bicentennial colors to celebrate the nation's 200th birthday in 1976. She often was tapped for special trips.
