SP GP30 page: GRIP Program
GRIP Program:
The SP began a large scale program to rebuilt its many locomotives called the GRIP (General Rehabilitation and Improvement Program) in 1970. It encompassed many models of locomotives, one of which was planned to be the GP30. One unit (SSW 500x) was disassembled, but never released as rebuilt. No SP or SSW GP30's were part of the GRIP program.
