SSW 752:

This loco was built in 2/1963 with EMD construction number 28174. She was built as a freight engine. She was painted in standard for the time bloody nose colors and featured a full 5 light headlight arrangement on each end.
This locomotive was involved in a wreck at El Monte, CA on 04/02/01973. The damage to the unit was not enough to vacate the unit from the roster, but the resulting repairs to the rear of the long hood resulted in a non-standard appearance compared to that of the other members of the SP/SSW GP30 fleet. The rear gyralight/UDE and vertical bracket were done away with and a rear headlight arrangement more in line with off the shelf GP30's and the SP/SSW fleet of GP35's was applied. Thus, this unit became a unique GP30 by becoming more standard. Also, upon emerging from Taylor shops for repairs from the same wreck, an SP was placed on the nose where SSW units were having their road number placed making this unit even more oddball. In later years, the SP was painted out, but the road number was not applied. Thanks to Ryan Martin for posting these details.
She was assigned number SSW 5002 in the 1965 system renumbering.
