This loco was built in 3/1962 with EMD construction number 27345. It was built as a freight engine. It was painted in standard for the time bloody nose colors and featured a full 5 light headlight arrangement on each end.

She was assigned number SP 4074 in the 1965 system renumbering.

She entered the GRIP program (at Houston) and emerged as SP 4118 in 12/29/1977.
