SP 6240-6295
This group of F7's were delivered as class DF-5. The middle "E" had already been dropped by the time these units were delivered. These were the first F units delivered without alpha suffixes. The A units of class DF-5 were built as follows:
-65:12 gearing -two way air horns -1200 gallon fuel tanks -dynamic brakes -no nose lifting lugs -no steam generator controls -no nose MU connections
These units were built as freight units only. Over the years, various modifications were done to them. Their associated B units were built as SP 8140-8195. All of the A and B units were retired between 1963 and 1969 and sold to EMD or GE. These units retained their as-built numbers throughout their entire careers as SP locomotives.
