SP 6140A-6142D
These were the first examples of the F7 model on the SP. This SP order (P-186) was split with two classes: DEF-3 and DEF-4.
The first three four-unit ABBA sets were originally delivered as class DEF-3. The middle "E" was dropped within a few years and became DF-3. The DEF-3/DF-3 A units were built as follows:
-62:15 gearing -1200 gallon fuel tanks -dynamic brakes -no steam generator controls -no nose MU connections
These units were built as freight units only. Over the years, various modifications were done to these units. Their associated B units became SP 8080-8085 in late 1949. All of the A and B units were retired between 1964 and 1966 and sold to EMD (except SP 8080 which was sold to GE.)
