SSW 920A
This loco was built in 6/1945 with EMD construction number 3229. It was built as an FT A-unit. It was painted in the SSW's Confederate grey and yellow scheme, but was eventually repainted into the new standard for the time black widow colors.
Her alpha suffix was done away with when the FT fleet was renumbered in April 1949. She became SSW 921.
She was sold to EMD for trade-in fodder for new GP20's in 11/1960.
This unit was wrecked and rebuilt by EMD twice during her career with the SSW. I will let Ed Cooper explain:
"So in brief summary: The 920A was likely wrecked on November 16, 1948 at Renault, Illinois and returned to EMD for rebuilding. It was renumbered to 921 in April 1949. The unit was wrecked again at Aurich, Arkansas on November 29, 1949 and returned to EMD for rebuilding. The wreck at Aurich was so bad that the 921 emerged from LaGrange on a new F7 frame."
