SP 6378

Photo by: Warren Calloway - Gibsland, LA - May 16, 1972

This loco was built in 07/1952 with EMD serial number 16559. She was built as a 1500 hp F7 A-unit. She was painted in the SP's standard for the time black widow colors.

She was retired on 06/11/1968 and sold to GE on 06/19/1968.

She was sold in 6/1968 to Wellsville, Addison & Galeton as their engine #2100, but reportedly not used.

She was transferred in 6/1968 to WAG sister road Louisiana & North West as their engine #46 and used for many years in north Louisiana and south Arkansas.

In 2000, she was bought and moved to the Golden Gate Railroad Museum in San Francisco for preservation.

She was the second locomotive to be painted in the SP's newly adopted grey and red "bloody nose" paint scheme. The first was SP 6002, an E-unit. She also received road name in gothic lettering, which she kept all the way through her retirement and shipment to the WA&G railroad. Many thanks to Rich Sievers for the painting info!
