This loco was built in 10/1949 with EMD construction number 8218. It was built as a 1500 hp F7 B-unit. It was painted in the SP's standard for the time black widow colors.
Her alpha suffix was done away with when the F7 fleet was renumbered in late 1949 as she became SP 8131.
She was retired on 05/20/1969 and sold to GE on 08/21/1969.
GE aparently sold this unit to the Illinois Central where it operated as IC 714 for a short time.
