This loco was built in 01/1948 with EMD construction number 4579. It was built as a 1500 hp F3 B-unit. It was painted in the SP's standard for the time black widow colors.
Her alpha suffix was done away with when the F3 fleet was renumbered in late 1949 as she became SP 8037. She was transferred to the T&NO and renumbered as T&NO 523 on 11/25/1951.
She was rebuilt as an F9M at EMD and renumbered T&NO 705 in 03/1955.
She was retired on 10/27/1969 and sold to EMD on 11/13/1969.
