This loco was built in 01/1948 with EMD construction number 4578. It was built as a 1500 hp F3 B-unit. It was painted in the SP's standard for the time black widow colors.
Her alpha suffix was done away with when the F3 fleet was renumbered in late 1949 as she became SP 8036. She was transferred to the T&NO and renumbered as T&NO 522 on 11/25/1951.
She was rebuilt as an F9M at EMD and renumbered T&NO 704 in 03/1955.
She was retired on 07/06/1970 and sold to GE (via Precision Engineering Corp.) on 07/27/1970.
