This loco was built in 01/1948 with EMD construction number 4566. It was built as a 1500 hp F3 B-unit. It was painted in the SP's standard for the time black widow colors.
Her alpha suffix was done away with when the F3 fleet was renumbered in late 1949 as she became SP 8024. She was transferred to the T&NO and renumbered as T&NO 524 on 11/1951.
She was rebuilt as an F9M at Houston and renumbered T&NO 725 in 12/1959.
She was retired on 07/05/1967 and sold to EMD on 07/26/1967.
