This loco was built in 10/1947 with EMD construction number 4547. It was built as a 1500 hp F3 B-unit. It was painted in the SP's standard for the time black widow colors.
Her alpha suffix was to have been done away with when the F3 fleet was renumbered in late 1949. She was to have became SP 8005, but was sent to the T&NO and renumbered as T&NO 505 on 06/27/1949 prior to this number being applied.
She was rebuilt as an F9M at Houston and renumbered T&NO 714 in 12/08/1955.
She was retired on 06/10/1968 and sold to GE on 06/17/1968.
