SP Camera Car page

This page is dedicated to SP's only ex KM ML-4000 camera car.

The SP converted retired KM ML-4000 hydraulic drive locomotive SP 9113 (nee SP 9010) in 19xx to a camera car to be used to film sequences for the SP's new locomotive simulator used for locomotive engineer training. She was set up as a non-powered unit but retained her cab controls and mu capability to control any locomotive for propulsion. She was originally assigned number SP 1, then SPMW 1166 and finally SP 8799.

She was retired in 1984 and subsequently donated to the California State Railroad Museum in 1986. She sat at CSRM for many years stored until being acquired by the Pacific Locomotive Association in 2008. She has since been restored to her 1964 appearance and is operational on the Niles Canyon Railroad.
