This loco was built in 4/1965 with ALCO construction number 3401-09. It was built as a freight engine. It was painted in standard for the time bloody nose colors and featured a full 5 light headlight arrangement on the front and a single sealed beam headlight on the rear.
She was renumbered as SP 7112 in the 1965 system renumbering.
She was downgraded to heavy switcher status on 07/22/1974 and renumbered SP 3131.
This is one of two C-628's (along with SP 3129) known to have worked bridge pull service at Avondale, LA between early 1973 and late 1977 along with seven C-630's.
