CH-70-19 Covered Hoppers:


	UP 12250-12315


These 3-bay, 70-ton covered hoppers were built by PS (Lot 8589C) in 3/1961 as PS-2s. They featured 3506 ft3 capacity. They were assigned to class CH-70-19.

Apparently, during delivery from PS while on the NYC, several of the cars were damaged. A group of 8 cars was built to lot 8589D as wreck replacements. However, the damaged cars appear to have been purchased by NYC after the damage was done, rebuilt and placed in service as NYC 885100-885106 numbered above their own PS 3506 ft3 covered hoppers. Since only seven cars are listed for NYC, this seems to indicate that one of the cars was too badly damaged to be rebuilt by NYC and apparently scrapped. It would be wonderful to have more detailed information on this fascinating story!
