This loco was built in 11/1978 with EMD serial number 786157-1. She was built as a freight roadswitcher, model GP38-2. She was not assigned a name.

She became DW&P 5850 in the early 1980's when DW&P obtained 4 GP38-2 units from the defunct Rock Island.

She later became GTW 5850.
