This loco was built in 11/1976 with EMD serial number 757136-36. She was built as a freight roadswitcher, model GP38-2. She was named Mike Lemke.

She became MP 2288 in the early 1980's when MP obtained 52 GP38-2 units from the defunct Rock Island.
