This loco was built in 10/1976 with EMD serial number 757136-17. She was built as a freight roadswitcher, model GP38-2. She was named Robert D. Ray.

She became MP 2269 in the early 1980's when MP obtained 52 GP38-2 units from the defunct Rock Island.
