RI 21000-22999:
RI 21000-22999 rblt by USRE (Lot 1289) 11/1974-2/1975 (to RI 57000-57412) rblt by USRE (Lot 1289-11) 1975 (to ROCK 57413-57885) rblt by USRE (Lot 1289-12) 1975 (to ROCK 57886-58149)
These 40'-6", 50-ton box cars were built by PS (Lot 8028) in 4, 10-12/1951 as PS-1s. They featured 6' Youngstown or Superior doors and 3898 ft3 capacity. They also featured the commemorative 100 years of Progress 1852-1952 logo.
Many of these cars were sold to USRE, rebuilt and renumbered as above and leased back in the mid 1970's. It is interesting that the change from RI to ROCK reporting marks occured in the middle of their delivery splitting the series between the old and new reporting marks, but retaining the number series. It is not known if the RI group was ever re-marked with ROCK reporting marks. Any info would be most appreciated.
