This loco was built in 12/1973 with EMD serial number 73676-2. She was built as a freight roadswitcher, model SD40-2.

She became ICG 6041 in the early 1980's when ICG obtained the entire fleet of SD40-2's from the defunct Rock Island.

She became EMDX 6041 as a member of EMD's lease fleet.

She became NSMX 656.
