Welcome to the OTDX (Rubber Cars) Page. Goodyear operates a unique fleet of cars specially designed to haul synthetic rubber in 44 de-mountable aluminum containers. They were built by Thrall in the early 1-5/1973. These cars were very common in South Louisiana due to the close proximity of a Goodyear rubber plant just west of Beaumont, Texas at a place called Cheek. The cars were numbered OTDX 6000-6174. They were originally listed in the ORER's as owned by the O-T-D Corporation, but by the early 1980's, they are listed under Greenbriar Leasing. They feature an interesting arrangement for securing the containers in place where the roof lifts up to allow a forklift to load the containers, then the roof can be lowered to keep the containers from shifting during transit. They were originally black, but were repainted red over the years.

BNSF rebuilt 90 of these cars into specialized maintenance of way cars for tie service starting in 2005. The cars were renumbered BNSF 967030-967219 and bear little resemblence to their former configurations.
