The MP had a fleet of E-unit cabs numbered in the 70xx series. It appears that they began a program to renumber them as well as assign acquired units from C&EI, T&P and B&M into the MP 1-43 series in the late 1950's to early 1960's.
Note that the number MP 29 was skipped over and not used.
