This loco was built in 10/1950 with EMD serial number 13422. She was built as a cab-end yard switcher, model SW7.

She was renumbered to KCS 4304 in the mid 1970's.

"KCS SW7 1304 was severely damaged in a head-on collision with Frisco 
passenger train 704 on the SLSF near Cedars, OK on 30 December 1952. 
She was rebuilt into SW9 1304 under EMD order No. 7505 in April 1953, 
but retained her original serial number amended as 13422:2. The KCS had 
trackage rights over the SLSF between Poteau, OK and Fort Smith, AR and 
the accident was caused because the crews' train orders were not the same. 
KCS X1304S had 10 cars and a caboose, while Frisco passenger train 704 
had GP7 615 and three cars."
