IC GP8:
This page is dedicated to IC's fleet of GP8 units. The IC's Paducah, KY shops rebuilt a total of 19 units into what they called GP8 units. These consisted entirely of GP7 units from the original IC fleet. The main spotting features were the chopped nose and air filter box addition. The program was begun in the late 1960's and took IC GP7's at random and rebuilt them. They were renumbered by changing the first digit "8" to a "7" retaining the last three digits. It is assumed that most (if not all) of these units were eventually relettered as ICG units after the IC/GM&O merger, but this has not yet been verified. As additional information comes available, the pages will be updated to reflect this.
Units rebuilt after August 1972 were outshopped with ICG lettering and are covered seperately on the ICG pages.
