EMDX 5625:
This loco was built in 8/1960 as EMD demonstrator unit EMD 5625 with serial number 26107. She toured various railroads around the country including the SP. She was sold to the SP on 2/6/1962 along with the other three demonstrator units. The SP repainted her into standard for the time bloody nose colors and added a full 5 light headlight arrangement on each end. She featured a winterization hatch which was retained by the SP after purchase.
She was assigned number SP 4084 in the 1965 system renumbering.
She entered the GRIP program and emerged as SP 4117 in 8/16/1977. Her winterization hatch was removed at the time of rebuild.
