The Columbian Chemical Company is a major player in the production and distribution of carbon black and other related fine particle products. They were once owned by Cities Services Company and many of their cars were lettered as such. They are now owned by the Phelps Dodge Corporation. They operate carbon black plants throughout the United States and the rest of the world. See the Columbian Chemical Company web site. Since one of their plants (North Bend, LA) is near where I live, I have opportunity to see and photograph many of their fleet of carbon black hoppers.
