There are two basic types of facilities that process sugar cane, the grinding mill and the refinery. I believe there are grinding mills that only grind sugar cane into molasses, liquid sugar and brown sugar. Then there are refineries which take raw sugar and further refine it into table sugar. I believe some mills exist along while others are mills and refineries. I don't know if there are/were any standalone refineries.
