Trintomar:

By far, the farthest I have ever been away from home for JRM was when I went to Trinidad to demob the H&P rig #107 from the Pelican Platform. I had been working for McDermott less than a year when I got the assignment. I had just finished up working on the Exxon Mobile Bay Project when I was told that I would be going to Trinidad. I ended up going to Trinidad to meet with the client (Trintomar) and surveying the worksite for a week prior to the actual work. This was nice as we stayed at the famous "upside down" Hilton in Port of Spain and drank Carib beer by the pool.
The work was actually fairly simple, but the logistics of lining up so many details from so many different places to converge at a single place was challenging. We actually timed our arrival in Trinidad to meet the DB50 on its way home to the Gulf of Mexico from West Africa. The first few days on site were spent waiting on the famous swells of Trinidad to calm down. When we finally found our window, the rig came down fairly easily. The only major problem was that a large amount of mud was left on the platform after we removed the rig packages. There was so much so, that we had to wait to set the production equipment until the mud was cleared. I managed to bring home some great Rum which my mother used to make rum cakes for many years!
