Texaco WD109:

Prior to my work with Texaco on the Petronius Platform, I worked with Texaco on another unique project, the installation of an 84" diameter caisson on an existing platform along with a standard API drill rig installation. The project involved designing and fabricating custom jigs to be taken to the platform to measure as-built dimensions on the sub sea platform bracing. From these dimensions, we fabricated guides that would be installed below the water to contain the caission piles as we added sections and welded additional piles. A sub contract dive boat was used to perform much of the pre-installation work as well as the installation of the clamps, which fit perfectly. The DB Ocean Builder was used to install the caisson piles which featured several 4" weld splices. Once the piles had penetrated the mudline and were self supporting, 500,000 ft-lb steam hammers were used to pound them to design penetration. The Dual Rig #25 was loaded out in Morgan City, LA by the DBII and brought to the worksite where the Ocean Builder set the rig atop the unique mudslide platform. Much credit also needs to go out to a seperate work crew headed by our welder foreman (let's call him "the Pope") that stayed on after the derrick barge would depart to perform some awkward piping work that the customer had requested.
