DB23:
The DB23 was the local "yard" barge. When I started work for McDermott in 1987, its Coast Guard papers had been pulled, so it could no longer work offshore, however, it stayed in and around the Morgan City/Bayou Black area performing hammer and equipment loadouts, platform loadout and rigup work for the Fab Yard and the occasional customer loadout. Typical drill rig loadouts could be performed with the DB23 handling all of the smaller packages and the Shearleg taking the one or two lifts (substructure and pump package) out of capacity for the DB23. However, there were a few notable occasions that the DB23 ventured far away from home.
