FMC - GBEC

The freight car production of FMC-GBEC and associated companies is of interest. Both FMC and Gunderson Bros. Engineering Company have had diversified product lines, but our interest here is freight cars. The first freight cars built were by Gunderson Bros. (GBEC) in 1960, however, they produced components, namely underframes, as early as 1957. They were purchased by FMC, an established producer of xxxx in August 6, 1965. Freight cars produced prior to this point are listed as built by GBEC. From the merger until the freight car production business was sold to Greenbriar in March 1985, the builder is listed as FMC-GBEC. Production after this point is referred to as built by GUND.

Anyone interested in serious study of FMC-GBEC's freight car production is encouraged to purchase a copy of Eric Neubauer's companion e-books on FMC-Gunderson. They serve as my main references for anything to do with FMC-GBEC and are easily searchable by reporting mark, car number series or lot number.
